New Concept Designs

Hi!

Heres a couple more pages from my sketchbook featuring more robot designs, setting sketches for RUSTY ROBOTS and even an alien girl I have been thinking about sculpting!

 Alien Girl

I quite like the idea of playing around with proportions on her and the strange pipes jutting out of her head. As mentioned already I am thinking about sculpting her but think I need to develop her character a bit first!
Forge Town

 Scrapyard Settlement

I am slowly developing a game setting called Rusty Robots (more information can be found HERE) and wanted to develop some visuals for it so have sketched some typical buildings and settlements that can be found throughout the planet spanning Scrapyard.

More Robot Designs!

Next up theres some more robot designs, some of which are indeed going to get sculpted! I particularly like the wheeled ones in the second picture which will be seeing action in the world of Rusty Robots!

All the best!

Sketchbooking 3

Hi!

Well I have already failed to add a picture from my sketchbooks every day but I haven't been idle!

I always carry a tiny A7 sketchbook in my pocket along with a pen so that any time I have an idea I will sketch it down. Heres a couple of examples:

Tiny Scribbles

I found that I often came up with a concept when I was out and about and by the time I got home I had forgotten about it so settled on the small sketchbook as it allows me to jot down anything that comes into my head. In this case its got some very early concepts for some new robots, namely the Valentines Series and the Reach out and Touch Romania robot I am planning on making. Theres also a bit of a sketch of a new Spacecow I hope to make soon too.

Although these are really very rough and no more than thumbnails I find them really handy when it comes to developing ideas as I have collected a back catalogue of small sketchbooks with doodles and ideas in them which can be altered and refined in a slightly larger and organised manner when required.

They are also very handy for sketching people, a practice my Animation lecturer would encourage us to do as often as possible. I would second this as I find it an invaluable practice.

Tiny Life Drawing Doodles

Slightly Developed

They might only be very rough but they give one the basics of pose, movement and eventually developing a believable character. The sketches above come from the same project that resulted in my Space Captain Smith concept:

Hopefully I will be able to show the development of these new sketches or at least continue drawing more and adding them here!

All the best!

Sketchbooking 2

Hi!

Heres another page of my sketchbooks!

Sketchbookage!

I've developed the loose idea from the previous page a little, investigating different armour types and head shapes and wondering whether head size or shape could represent different ranks or castes. Its always interesting to see how ones doodlings can take a life of their own as you develop them. I think I could probably have a bash at looking at some Egyptian artwork in order to develop the look I am thinking of.

I think I will continue developing the concept over the coming few days and may even have a bash at making a maquette of him once I'm happy with the overall design!

All the best!

Sketchbooking!

Hi!

Somewhat later than promised heres the first days sketchbook page!

Sketchbook!

Its a bit of a mix of different bits and bobs but theres a concept starting to emerge there somewhere! I am going to continue to develop it to see what I can come up with as I fancy a bit of a change from producing lots of rusty robots.

Looking at whats appeared thus far I am quite drawn to the chap with the Pharaoh beard and will see where the concept goes. Maybe I will combine it with the Goblin armour in the centre as its quite fun too. I might have a bash at making it a bit more Egyptian crossed with sci-fi in-keeping with the beard!

All the best!
